What we provide

In Her Own Rite gives participants a deep and embodied experience of their sacred nature restoring dignity to those of us living under systemic oppression and with the aftermath of trauma.

It uplifts and educates femmes on the role of power in their life and how they can use it positively to protect themselves from future harm and be a servant leader wherever life may find them.

It fosters collaborative community enabling participants to expand their support network.

It provides rest and rejuvenation to womxn and girls exhausted by their circumstances.

Previous Projects

So far, we have designed and facilitated events for at risk teen girls through the YMCA, trafficking survivors in conjunction with Harambee Arts, underprivileged youth with Drawbridge, private workshops, Brave Girl Symposium and a neighborhood monthly womxn's circle.

Part circle, part workshop,
part craft meetup, part rite of passage

All of our events include a combination of circling, workshop and crafting time, breakout sessions, movement, visualization/meditation and ritual.

We use the principles of Freirian pedagogy, womxn's circles, life coaching methods, expressive arts facilitation, emotional intelligence, the Jungian wheel of feminine archetypes (with emphasis on the queen), somatics and more.
We are currently seeking fiscal sponsorship and funding. Our goal is to take this programming to a local juvenile detention center, domestic violence shelter, and beyond. We are also creating full scholarships spots in our for profit events with priority given to womxn at the intersection of being single mothers, womxn of color, activists/community organizers, and womxn dealing with chronic mental/physical illness of their own or a family member, low income, and educators.

SUSAN SANELLI HAMMACK

Founder and Facilitator

Picture
I’m a professional artist, expressive arts facilitator, and life coach from the San Francisco Bay Area.  I have extensive training and experience in creating trauma-informed and inclusive educational spaces, holding womxn's circles, social and emotional learning, and the visual and performing arts.

Like most womxn, I have survived many experiences that left me questioning my worth and practicing self-betrayal. Through working with the archetype of the queen, I have been able to reconnect to my sacred nature and shift from servitude to genuine service that is sustainable and self-honoring.

I have created this offering with the desire to mirror to each woman and girl her value, inherent beauty and strength. And to return to our culture a rite of passage where womxn can choose to honor themselves for the magnificent beings that they are.
